With back-to-school season the kids are all headed back to class and it’s not just the little ones. Older kids and adults are headed to college, often living on campus or hours away from home. It’s a whole new adjustment for families and students alike.
College can be an emotional roller-coaster for students and loved ones. As the students head out, some for the first time on their own, adjustment is hard. They are getting into new routines, figure out their school schedules and missing their loved ones.
Call me old school if you want, but keeping in touch with simple pen and paper is one of my favorite things. There’s just something about getting something in the mailbox that isn’t a bill or junk mail. It’s more personal than a quick email or saying, ‘Hi’ on social channels.
Before a loved one heads off to college, send them with a ‘Stay-in-Touch’ box to make it easy for them to write a quick note.
How to Make a ‘Keep-In-Touch’ Box
First, find a theme! What does your loved one like? With the new Ghostbusters out, it was the perfect theme for my box. Ghostbusters is a classic movie I enjoyed as kid and with the new one in theaters I am so excited.
To go with the theme I started the bright slime green.
Things to fill the box with:
- Variety of paper type & sizes (lined, copy paper, etc)
- Writing utensils
- Journels or notebooks
- Sticky notes
- Paper clips
- Stickers
- Labels
- Envelopes
- Stamps
- Little toy or trinkets
- Candy Snacks
For students I know, chocolate is the way to their heart. When I was at Walmart about the check out, I found a variety of candy to keep in the box. The variety of individually wrapped candy is great for boxes so they can save some and get a little at a time.
I added some from a Mixed Mini Variety Bag, SNICKERS® Mixed fun sized variety 35.09 oz. and Milky Way® Midnight Miniature 10.5 oz. I also included a few of the M&M’s® Milk Chocolate & Peanut Bottles. The bottles are convenient for on-the-go too.
To fit the theme, I added Ghostbusters stickers to a few of the notebooks and the top of the box.
For the actual box, a plastic container that isn’t that deep is perfect. College students normally don’t have a lot of room to store things, so don’t go too big.
Add everything in the box as a gift for college students making it easy to write a note so you get some happy mail while they are at school.
