My two older sons are 2 & 3 and are only 14 months apart in age. My two year old always wants to be like his big brother, do everything he does and follow his lead. My oldest has been pretty much potty-trained for awhile now and last week it was clear Chase wanted to be as well. One morning as Ethan got a new pair of underwear, Chase also got one, handed it to me and said he wanted to wear them too and be a ‘big boy like Ethan’. Throughout the day, he showed more signs of his readiness and eagerness to start his potty training journey. He would tell me when he wet his diaper and asked to sit on the potty a few times. I say it’s time for some training pants!
Huggies Pull-Ups on Rollback at Walmart
That evening I made my weekly run to Walmart to pick up a few things. I stopped by the diaper and potty training aisle to get a surprise for Chase to start potty training. I was pleased to see the jumbo packs of Huggies Pull-Ups were on Price Rollback for just $8.97. Shoppers must really like the Rollback price because between all three sizes, there was only jumbo pack left and it wasn’t the size I needed. I elected to get the big package but when I got home I checked on Walmart.com and they have the same great price. Next time I may just order it and have it shipped to my house.
How Pull-Ups Training Pants Helps with Potty Training
The Huggies Learning Designs Training Pants feature Lightning McQueen. The majority of my older son’s underwear have Cars designs, so Chase says they now match and he gets excited to wear them. The easy open sides allows quick removal and come in handy when he has an accident. They also feature a pattern that fades when wet (the ’95’ in the above picture). This allows me to notice if he had an accident and helps him learn to stay dry.
Quick Tips for Potty Training
Every child is different. What works for one kid may not work for the next. Be patient and work at your child’s pace. When my oldest was 2, I wanted him potty trained before baby #3 arrived and I tried to rush him (I was terrified of having three in diapers). It was not successful and a complete disaster at first. After I relaxed and stopped pushing it, he just decided one day he was ready and didn’t have an accident that whole day.
Set a timer and every hour it’s time for a potty break. My son gets encouraged because he remembers to go when the time goes off and he is not being told to go potty.
Make it fun. Add a drop or two of blue food coloring so when they go potty it turns green. If you have a son, put a few Cheerios in the toilet to give them something to aim at.
Use rewards and incentives to help motive them. I put a sheet of Cars stickers near the potty so after he uses it, he can pick one. With my first son I tried using M&Ms and that was NOT a good idea. I would give him 1 or 2 M&Ms each time he would use the potty. Well he got smart and started going potty a little, get an M&M, wait about 15 minutes and repeat this numerous times. It got out of control and I had to convince him that going potty about more than just getting candy.
Stay positive, even through the accidents. All kids are going to have accidents and that’s okay. Be encouraging and make a huge deal when they stay dry and use the potty. We have a small celebration with each flush and my kids love getting loud. What works best for Chase so far? A good old fashion high five. But not any high five. It has to be a high five from his brother. And Ethan is such an awesome big brother he even says (or yells) ‘Good Job, Chase’ while giving him a high five. Even at the ages of 2 & 3, they have the best brotherly love ever!
